Bedminster's six debutants all contribute to pull off the narrowest of victories

A beautiful early Summer's day greeted players and fans for the 11's opening home fixture of the season. The side consisted of six players all making their debuts, captain George was more than happy to be put into bat on losing the toss. Joe and George batted well together in the first partnership, both finding the boundary, George managing to lose the match ball in his second over smashing a leg-side full toss over the fence onto the railway tracks for six! The pair managed to put on 27 runs from their 4 overs, Harry Bennett and Charlie the next pair to the crease. The boys batted sensibly, adding a further 16 runs, the scoreboard ticking on nicely with only one wicket lost from the first eight overs. Finn and Harry Barnes, both debutants were next in, Finn cutting beautifully for a couple of runs off his opening over. Two more lads, Will and Bertie, were the next pair in for the first time for the Under 11's, both doing incredibly well not to lose their wickets in the face of some very accurate bowling. Last but not least Orla and Louis batted the last four overs, adding a further 16 runs (Orla blasting two fantastic boundaries) to leave Bedminster in a very respectable position at the interval. After refreshments Bedminster took to the field, Joseph and Charlie bowling with their usual accuracy and economy, Charlie taking his first wicket to leave Wrington with only seven runs from their first four overs. Other than two good overs from Harry Bennett, the next twelve overs were shared by the debutants, who , while all looking a little nervous, bowled superbly. Bertie took his first wicket for Bedminster with an accurate straight delivery, and Orla and Harry Barnes impressed with genuine pace. Wrington were playing well however, and slowly but steadily accumulated runs, putting themselves in a commanding position requiring only four runs to win from the last four overs. Bedminster weren't prepared to throw the towel in however, Joseph and Charlie returning to the attack knowing at least two wickets were needed to give us any sort of chance. Both soaked up the pressure with, both pulling off fantastic caught and bowleds to give us the two wickets we needed, Bedminster squeaking through to a narrow four run victory!
