The Under 11s visited Claverham, the first of a four game run in whereby 4 wins will guarantee a play off spot. The weather was perfect, a bright sunny morning and an idyllic setting that is Claverham CC with all its character of an old fashioned traditional cricket ground.
Claverham won the toss and elected to field and must have thought it a great decision when they took two wickets in the first over. Bedminster slowly found their feet and began to make runs although not at a pace we have seen in the past. This was a somewhat tepid batting display but the scoreboard ticked over with singles and the odd four, a great square drive from Jenson and short pull shot from George, together with some usual extras Claverham were handing out the visitors made 271.
After an important team talk at the break, Bedminster came out a different side and produced one of the most consistent bowling performances of the season. Charlie and Dan giving away only a couple of run from the first 4 overs. David continued only offering the odd single from his two overs and so it continued throughout the innings. Claverham were desperate for runs and had to take some chances but hadn’t considered the fielding expertise of Charlie. Fielding at short third man Charlie produced two direct hit run outs and was unlucky with a third as David took the bails just a seconds after the batsmen slid in his bat. Great stuff. Once Claverhams’s final pair came to the crease there was just too much for them to do and Jake and Billy bowled out the last four overs without any cause for concern.
Another great win, three to go!
