The under 11s took some confidence from the midweek win against Lodway into this first North Somerset game of the season. A few new faces took to the field and although everyone generally bowled well the Long Ashton batsmen played extremely well with some good running between the wickets and dispatching any bad balls. Bedminster only took one wicket, coming during an excellent four over spell from Jake Sheppard. Bedminster had been set 101 to win. Olly and Jake opened the batting and hitting the ball to all parts got the score to above 30 from their 4 overs. The middle order kept the score ticking over all be it at a slower pace but importantly only lost one wicket. When the final pair of Dan and Billy reached the crease Bedminster needed 20 off the last four overs to win the match.
Dan was bowled and Billy was run out making the task even harder but they remained in touching distance of the total. With two balls remaining Bedminster required 7 to win. Dan pulls a short ball for four meaning 3 to win off the final ball. In attempt to hit another four Dan misses the ball and so does the keeper, they run a bye and as the keeper and close fielders make a hash of the run out attempt Dan somehow scrambles back for the second to tie the match. Incredible finish and a great game from two equally matched teams.
