Bedminster made the short journey to Failand to face a Bristol side knowing a win would guarantee a second place finish in Group E of the BYCL.
Bristol won the toss and elected to bat. They may have fancied the short boundary and eyeing up a big score but hadn’t considered the quality of Bedminster bowling that was before them. Ali and Joseph opened the bowling and from the first ball were in charge. Ali taking 3 wickets and Joseph taking 1 with the ball of the match. The batsmen leaving what seemed a harmless ball pitching well outside leg stump turned and took out middle. Fielding was solid and produced a run out. Bristol were 5 down and in trouble. Then it was the turn of Amber and Charlie to fight for the family bragging rights. Both bowling straight and between them cleaned up the last 5 wickets during their four over spells. Amber just edging it with 3 wickets. 9 of the 10 wickets were bowled which shows how much they have worked on bowling straight. Bristol all out for 49 of 14 overs.
Despite losing the early wicket of Harry, opening partner George wasn’t in the mood to be so generous, playing some glorious shots including 5 fours and a 6 over mid on, on his way to an unbeaten 27. Ali followed up his superb bowling display with a commanding 17no. On George’s retirement Olly joined Ali and the crease and promptly hit a boundary to help Bedminster reach the total on the last ball of the sixth over.
Great display all round and this Bedminster side will finish second in the group, winning 4 and losing only the one game to the group winners YMCA.
This side must be buzzing with confidence as we welcome Bristol to the Clanage on Thursday for the Don Brooks Plate QF match.
