Bedminster U'15s put a marker down in the BYCL, as they strolled to a ten wicket victory over Lodway
Lewis Shean and Alfie Lewis combined to share an unbroken 92 run partnership to take Bedminster to their target with more than 8 overs to spare, after having restricted the visitors to 91-9 in their 20 overs. The Bedminster opening batsmen formed as contrasting partnership as Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger did in the 1988 film Twins. The tall right hander Alfie Lewis (30 not out) looked to get on the front foot and drive, whilst the left handed Lewis Shean preferred to stay on the back foot as he pulled and cut his way to 35 not out. The pairs differing styles wreaked havoc with not only the bowlers lines but also their lengths, for example a ball Lewis would drive, Shean would cut. In addition they ran excellently between the wickets, as they guided their team home.
Earlier in the evening, as the sun shone on the Clanage, Lodway won the toss and elected to bat. Opening bowler Bailey Peacock must have had the visitors regretting that decision, as he took two wickets, both clean bowled, with the first two balls of match. Lodway recovered from 0-2 to 36-2 before Alfie Lewis also took two wickets in two balls. During the innings second half, Zulkarnain Butt bowled a tight spell as he controlled an end, whilst picking up 3 wickets in the process. He was ably supported by Will Harvey and Sam Shopland who took 1 wicket a piece, as Lodway put 91 runs on the board for Bedminster to chase.
For his match winning innings, Lewis Shean was named Man of the Match.
The Under 15's will be back in action tomorrow night, as they play Bristol YMCA B in the Bristol Youth Cricket League Natwest Under 15 Nat Cup.
