Alfie Lewis 50 not out as Bedminster pile on 164 for 2, before all round bowling display dismisses Twyford for 66 to secure semifinal place in the BYCL knockout cup.

On a warm evening at Twyford House, Bedminster under 15’s outclassed the hosts to progress to the semifinal of the BYCL knockout cup.

In perfect batting conditions skipper Joe Millard won the toss and elected to bat. Bedminster then proceeded to put in their most comprehensive batting performance of the season. Millard briefly sparkled, driving his first ball to the cover boundary for four. He went on to play a number of visually pleasing shots before being bowled for 20. Alfie Lewis, who was promoted to open in Adam Hares absence, survived a scare on naught when he was dropped by the keeper. From then on, he hardly put a foot wrong. He started conservatively, playing himself in but not missing any scoring opportunities, before practically eliminating dot balls by maneuvering the ball around the field well, as well as running well between the wickets, turning ones into twos, and hitting the bad ball to the boundary. Lewis formed an excellent partnership with Harry Drissell (29) before retiring on 50 not out. Danny Constable (22 not out) and Lewis Shean (14 not out) then finished the innings off strongly, to lift Bedminster to an imposing score of 164-2.

In reply, Twyford House struggled in the face of a hostile opening burst from Bailey Peacock, which was complimented by accuracy and guile from Shazil Butt at the other end. As pressure mounted Peacock was the first to strike, bowling the opening batsmen, before a run out by George Harris dismissed the other opener and Shazil Butt joined the party, bowling Alex Wilson, to leave Twyford reeling at 12-3. Will Harvey then struck first ball to leave Twyford in even bigger trouble. With pressure on the batsmen a further two run outs occurred, one each for Shazil and Zulkarnain Butt, whilst Sam Shopland (3-16) and George Harris (1-9) finished the innings off as Twyford were bowled out for 66.

Alfie Lewis was named man of the match for his excellent batting display.

Bedminster will now progress to the semifinal of the BYCL Cup, as they search for another piece of silverware to add to the North Somerset Cup and the Bristol Section of the National Cup.
