Adam Hares stars with bat and ball scoring 50 not out and taking 3 wickets as Bedminster under 15’s beat Bristol by 36 runs to knock them out of the BYCL knockout cup.

Bedminster gained revenge on Bristol, the only team to have beaten them this year, in the second round the BYCL knockout cup on a sunny evening at the Clanage.

After skipper Joe Millard, lost the toss Bedminster were invited to bat and made the most of the invitation as they scored 142 for 4 off their 20 overs. At one point Bedminster seemed to be on track for a 160 plus score however a string of wickets enabled Bristol to keep them to 142. Adam Hares played an excellent innings full of drives down the ground as well as pulling anything short to the boundary as he reached retirement at 50 not out. He was ably supported by Lewis Shean (32), who played excellent percentage cricket, keeping out the good ball and scoring off anything loose whilst ably rotating the strike. After Hares forced retirement and 3 quick wickets took momentum out of the innings. Joe Millard then ensured a strong finish via a sparkling 32 not out off only 21 balls, despite batting with an injury which inhibited his ability to run. Bedminster had reached a competitive total of 142, however after having been beaten by 9 wickets by Bristol earlier in the season there was a little apprehension if 142 was enough.

In reply Bristol’s innings started shakily as Adam hares took two early wickets to leave them reeling at 8-2. This brought together Ascherl and Quinlan who took the bowlers on, Quinlan especially looked to hit down the ground at every opportunity. The pair scored quickly and threatened to take the game away from Bedminster despite Bailey Peacock and Adam Hares bowling well. Skipper Millard looked to change the bowling before Hares convinced him to let him bowl the final over of his spell. It appeared to be an error as Quinlan took Hares for a boundary early in the over. Hares than challenged him to take on a hook to the long boundary, telegraphing an upcoming short ball by moving the field. Quinlan naively took the bait and drilled the short ball into the hands of Will Harvey on the boundary. The games momentum shifted after this dismissal as the run rate increasing and the star man out. Alfie Derrick then came onto bowl and killed the game off, bowling Ascherl and claiming a further 2 wickets for only 17 runs off 4 overs. Bristol then subsided to 106 all out with George Harris, Shazil Butt and Zulkarnain Butt taking one wicket apiece.

Adam Hares was named man of the match for an excellent all round performance.
