Bedminster U'15s made it two wins from two games as they beat Bristol YMCA in the first round of the Bristol Knockout Cup.
The sun shone on a pleasant, if a little chilly, evening at the Clanage as Bristol YMCA won the toss and elected to bat. Bedminster's opening bowlers Bailey Peacock (2 wickets for 11 runs) and Alfie Lewis (1 for 6) combined to bowl a probing opening spell, which denied YMCA's batsmen many opportunities to score. Harry Drissell and Shazil Butt, who took one and two wickets respectively, maintained the pressure on the opposition as wickets fell regularly to leave YMCA precariously positioned at 18-5. From there YMCA began to stage a recovery as they built a partnership to reach 41-5 before off spinner Zulk Butt, bowling up the hill with accuracy and guile, suffocated their innings to finish with figures of 4 for 5 as YMCA were bowled out for 65.
In reply, Harry Drissell and skipper Joe Millard opened the batting and were untroubled in reaching 18 without loss, before Millard was run out by a direct hit for 8. Batting partners came and went for Drissell, who anchored the Bedminster chase, as they steadily accumulated towards their target. Any nerves the home team may have had at 45-4, were quickly dispelled when Shazil Butt (14 not out) announced his arrival at the crease with a crisp drive through the offside for four. Together he combined with Drissell, who finished on 26 not out, to guide Bedminster home with 6 wickets and 5 overs to spare.
Zulk Butt was named Man of he Match for his four wicket haul.
The Under 15's will be back in action on Monday 8th of May, as they play Windscombe in the quarter finals of the North Somerset Cup.
