Bemmi 2s come through rain affected clash at the Clanage

Bemmi 2’s, cruising the legue and facing bottom of the league side Frampton who seemed favourites for relegation arrived st the ground knowing that rain was forecast meaning undoubtably it was a day to be bowling first and skipper Tryfonos did just that with his 100% tossing rate coming into play yet again.

Giving Duckworth the new ball again (even tho he’d be in and out of the side due to his music commitments) the medium pace swing bowler immediately put pressure on the batsman by keeping things tight, whilst at the other end, and up the hill “big noise” Harry Drisell was having a shakey start having thrown his toys out of the pram for the 15th game in a row & wicketless he finally decided to listen to full MCC playing member & manager Tryfonos, who set him the correct field and waffled him into submission at mid off. It was clear that the Greeks strategy was working as a wicket came quickly came with an lbw to dismiss the Batman’s at 18-1. Frampton had started to build a nice partnership as the rain started to drizzle down and as a consequence the ball was getting wetter and wetter meaning change bowler Ed Duckworth decided it was time for bouncing out the opposition as swing and seem had become non existent. Unfortunately the Frampton opening hit man took a liking to Duckworth smashing him to all parts in a 95 run partnership before older brother J Duckworth was brought back into the attack to bounce them out with a barrage of 55mph bumpers that actually ended up taking a wicket. Duckworth who finished off his spell with an array of filth was replaced by Ben “son of “ Cunliffe who came on to continue with the body line plan but instead ended up bowling the most dangerous beamer ever embarrassing both his team & family name whilst attempting to intimidate the elderly batsman who had come out without a lid but continued to pull and hook him well until gloving one to Louis “butter fingers” shean ( clearly the worst cricketer in the family).

At the other end Jack “straight break” Filer got an unusual early wicket then continued to bowl tidily with only a few of the usual half trackers and full bungers from a very solid 9 overs. The 2’s specialist ball shiner Filer had been offered a chance to show that he is much more than the team shiner and delivered unlike The Duckworth’s. At the other end Rob “Stone cold” Kelly bowled his typical 40 mph dibbly doblers very economically and picked up his usual token wicket.
As the rain developed into “Armageddon like” conditions both teams decided to stay on the field. This was until a streak of lightning threatened to hit the ever stationary flag pole John “2s reject” House on the top pitch meaning all ran for cover taking an early tea.

Fairly assuming the game was going to be abandoned, showers were being had and cider was a pouring until by some miracle groundsman Knapp pulled a rabbit out of the hat and got the pitch playable allowing a 22 over smash to play out to the bemusement and disgust of the 21 players sat in the bar changed and drinking.

Neither known for their aggression it was a surprise to see openers Cunliffe and “#2ndbestcricketerinthefamily” Tryfonos eventually arrive at the crease.

Having given strict instruction to go for the 120 odd needed in 10 overs & before the rain could return Greek watched “son of” Cunliffe take 1 from 10 balls (as usual and as discussed with his batting coach Simon “Blocker” Roache) meaning the in form skipper had to sacrifice his wicket lashing out at some good bowling & nicking off to slip. Eventually Cunliffe looked to take it to the Bowlers as the clouds started to gather but was only to make 6 runs from the next 30 balls and putting new batsman Rhandawa under immediate pressure who instructed went to win the game from ball 1 lasting only a few balls for his 10 but taking one for the team (unlike Cunliffe). This brought “the slip specialist ” Maccers to the crease. who’s cameo proved extremely unselfish in the chase getting the required run rate back to reality after Cunliffe’s bazzling masterclass had put Bemmi in the dung.

Having done his best to lose the game Cunliffe eventually got out for 36 allowing Lewis Shean to come in for a 1st ball golden quack quack & Rob “Stone Cold” Kelly to come in and play some elegant shots meaning he and McCormark could see it home at 115 for 4 in 16overs.
