Bemmi 2s Smash Knowle By Tea

With World Cup fever hitting the nation Bemmi 2s were due to be finished by 3pm to watch the three lions. With the football hindering selection somewhat the lads turned up sleepy eyed with the bare bones and only Greeks World Cup breakie to motivate. The breakfast was a great idea until it came to the actual warmups when old timers Vikash and Rothero complained about not only the lack of avocado & Vegan options but also that warming up after such a meal may hinder the digestion process and that we should skip them for the day (this was not permitted)

The Greek winning the Toss in his 36th straight toss win for Bemmi elected to field first allowing Drissell and Peacock to open up. Both bowl tidy, tight spells putting pressure on & in turn picking up a wicket each, (if only they could catch as well as they can bowl...
First change Cunliffe (son of The Rob Cunliffe) came on for a brief 4 over spell before realising it was too hot so decided to bowl a couple of beamers so he could be the 1st Bemmi Cricketer to be removed from bowling under the new rules picking up another Cunliffe record, (Dad will be so proud). In contrast at the other end, Rothero, (the wicket keeper batsman) came on first change up the hill with a dazzling display of 40 mph swing bowling partnered ably by Rob “ Stone Cold” Kelly who both picked up two wickets at very economical rates. Once these spells were over Captain Greek , for the second time this year, turned to his trusty spin twins Filer and Patel. Specialist shiner Filer coming on to take a wicket immidiately whilst Greek decided to focus on shining the ball in Filer’s absence to the amazement of the basman & his team mates as he chose to do this as the batters were attempting a single, electing not to throw the stumps down & missing out on a a run out chance. Enter Vikash Youvraj Patel (the man with more comebacks than Frank Sanatra) out of retirement again only to show the young lads how it’s done bagging 3 wickets for not a lot with a classic display of pie chucking, watching catch after catch shelled in the deep,( those Indian pies must have been hot just ask Cunliffe Drizz, Aidan, & Peacock who cost Budgee Singh a 6fer). Run outs for Filer and Jones finished the innings on the last ball, gaining maximum bowling points & Knowle all out for a competitive 224, the highest total v Bemmi at the Clanage this year.

On a Scortching day and with a quick turnaround Bedminster’s top order dominated proceedings, first team reject Hughes really showing his class with some calculated shots making batting look effortless (although the weight of being so good was clearly burdening Hughes ) who claimed that he felt like a bully and was far to good for this attack and struggling to concentrate whilst smashing balls into hotwells & continuing on to carry his bat for an unbeaten 112 off 82 balls (he must have felt terrible). Opening partner Tryfonos, again looking in great form (playing 2nd fiddle to Hughes) finally got out sweeping the spinner the ball Fter removing his Lid with sun strike & having hit over 220 runs in 2 innings. This brought in special guest star Jones, (playing his first 2’s game for two years) he showed his force hitting with 25 from 15 balls & ending the game with a couple of big 6s.

Bedminster win by 9 wickets.
