Shorney let’s H Newman know who’s number 1

The sun was shining at Clanage Road on the day of the eagerly anticipated match against Brislington 2nds. The opposition were keen to show off their New man and continue their giant killing of the league front runners after defeating the Pakistanis the previous week. The new man was also keen to let himself be known, but this was greeted by a variety of cold shoulders from the boys. After the toss it was decided that the Bemmi boys were to wield the willow first. The second over of the day set the tone for the innings as it was very clear that this bowler was to prove ineffective and was clearly out thought by the Bedminster skipper. This was a massive surprise to many and especially his team mates as boundaries were scored on both sides of the wicket. With the over eventually going for 15 and 34 out of 38 runs all being scored off of his first 3 overs, the aptly nicknamed escariot then got the breakthrough as 'son of' was caught trying to take advantage of the buffet. The young Bedminster keeper was next in and he proceeded to nudge and nurdle the ball around, throwing in the occasional crunch to the boundary. The skipper was next to perish to his opposite number for a well made 34 that promised much and fell well short of delivery. Shot a ball McCormack then joined Sheen the younger and didn't waist any time suggesting to the bowlers that their lines and lengths weren't quite up to the mark. After a brisk stand taking the score up to just short of the second batting point, McCormack dollyed the ball up to cover, suggesting that the demons in the pitch were to blame. The Sheen twins were now reunited and set to work on the opposition bowling attack crashing them to all parts of the field, and added over 100 runs before Sheen the elder fell to a good grab on the boundary for a well made 57. The effervescent Patel next strode out to the crease and effortlessly stroked the ball around before stroking it on to his pads to be ruthlessly fired by the Ace gunman at the other end. A guest appearance from the groundsmans son meant that he was next to join young Sheen. He proceeded to uncharacteristically knock the ball around to give his partner the chance to reach 3 figures with the overs remaining quickly depleting. Off the final over young Sheen was on strike needing a boundary to reach his maiden century and he stroked the ball with a characteristic late cut behind square to seal the deal. A fantastic innings and no further losses saw Bedminster post an imposing 315-5 with Sheen not out on 103 and Knapp not out 24, with a well deserved 76 runs being scored off of 9 very poor overs from the aforementioned New man. After tea Mason and Knapp started proceedings and both were wicketless in their first spells as the Brislington opening pair set about chasing down the required runs. A change of bowling brought about a change in the batsmen as the red rocket Hares came on to bowl. He bagged two in a row after two sharp wides which included the opposition danger man. The one and only H then removed 'Old man' Moore with the help of the Ace gunman firing another bullet. Escariot was next in to bat and proceeded to smash the ball almost to the edge of the square on at least one occasion before being asked to smell the leather by the real H, and then being removed courtesy of a slippery Yorker by young Cunliffe. Second spells proved to be more effective for Knapp and Mason, both picking up a couple of wickets and the red rocket finishing with an impressive 4-40 on his second team debut. The Brislington tail wagged and managed to get them to 206 but a great display from the Bedminster youth meant that the victory margin was over 100 runs and with maximum points secured, we remain at the top of the league.
