GLORIOUS GEORGE SCORES FIRST TON AT THE CLANAGE AS JUDAS NEWMAN SECURES SECOND LOSS FOR BRIZ & BEMMI 2s GO TOP OF THE LEAGUE

After Bedminster 2nd XI’s initial success in the 2018 season, with a commanding victory over Knowle they continued last week’s and last seasons form and by securing their second win of the season.

After winning the toss and elected to bat, Captain Tryfonos and injured Russell strode to the crease. While Russell looked strong from the outset, Tryfonos looked uneasy and was possibly still troubled by the ‘Ballgate’ scandal and his own general ‘Shit blokeness’ that occurred prior to the match. After hitting every part of the bat except the middle Tryfonos was out caught to the Bowling of Harvey for just two runs.

Shean built a fifty run second wicket partnership with Russell which possibly bored the fielding side into a sense of security. Shean then departed as Harvey claimed his second wicket with the score at 108-2 and Shean leaving the crease after scoring 29 from 49 balls. McCormack also added a fifty run partnership with Russell scoring a hard hitting 26 before he was dismissed.

A traditional 2nd team middle order collapsed then with J Shean (the third best cricketer in the family), Patel and Hussain all being dismissed for less than 10. While the collapse occurred at the other end Russell was unphased and secured his Century. After his and Mason short partnerships and Russell stating how he would ‘smash the spinner of the leg side’ Russell was clean bowled for a impressive 111 with the score at 187-7. Mason and Kelly then secured the next five overs after the collapse ensuring Bedminster would bat out their overs. Kelly was dismissed for 6 with Mason shortly following after his glorious 21. Duckworth and Filer were then batting for the final wicket while Filer ran hard and rotated the strike Duckworth smashed the ball to every part of the ground, including an attempted assassination of his father with a cricket ball. Duckworth finished on 29 while him and Filer remained not out with the score 254-9.

Duckworth (6-2-15-1) took the first over and along with the help of Hussain (8-1-21-2) kept the Old bristolians top order under pressure, resulting in them taking a wicket each for the opening spell. The first change partnership of Mason and Kelly then replaced the opening pair. With their swinging doblers the pair tore through the Old Bristolians middle order with Kelly (7-3-18-1) taking a wicket and somehow Mason (7-2-25-3) taking three leaving him with the best figures of the day, despite his consecutive delivers that went for 5 wides. Filer and Hussain then bowled to clean up the tail with Filer taking 2 wicket (and butchering a run out opportunity) and Hussain taking a second Wicket after his second spell.

Overall, Bedminster were always in control of the game after Russell scored his first hundred for the club, and the bowling attack was once again on form bowling out the opposition for just over 100 once again. It was a great win and the 2nd XI look to continue their form into next week as they take on promotion favourites Bristol Pakistanis away .
