Newman with back pains once again as himself and filer carry the twos to victory over St Mary Redcliffe.

After a long and loathsome drive up towards Bath, the ever enthusiastic 2nd XI arrived at "The Pit". The smell of dead rat still lingering in the showers-which had an uncanny resemblance to those found in Auschvits. Due to the teams surroundings, the mood of the squad quickly began to decline. Multiple comments were made about the ground throughout the morning prior to the start of play, with a noticeable amount coming from the vice-captain Patel, who couldn't seem to get to grips with the facilities, constantly winging.
Once Housey had finished threatening to punch his own (innocent) teammate "in the balls". The team trudged out to the very wet looking wicket. Although the club had covers, they had seem to have been completely buried in vegetation. With the wicket visibly moist, Superstar Mason proceeded to complete the "key test", which had very bad results. With the mood of the squad going down hill , the team quickly completed the warm up (whilst watching only one member of the opposition do so)and got ready to field, after winning the toss.
Both opening bowlers got of to a shaky start, with House being dispatched to all parts of the ground and Mason struggling to adapt the the left hand right hand combination, although Mason was unlucky as he was let down by his skipper, who once again put down an absolute dolly in the slips, claiming that "it died on him". It was only in his second spell towards the end of the innings that Mason could claim the only wicket taken by the opening pair.
It wasn't until Newman and Filer came on that the game began to turn in Bedminster's favour, with both taking valuable wickets and quickly drying up runs. A standout (village) moment in Newman's spell is when he excessively appealed for a ball which had clearly bowled the batsman.
Once Newman's and Filer's excellent spells had come to an end, Tryfonos and Kadir both continued to bowl in similar fashion, with Kadir keeping it exceptionally tight and Tryfonos taking cheap wickets with his left arm half volley straight breaks.
Partnered with Patel's unbelievable runout , things started to look up for the team.
Newman then came on for his second spell, replacing Kadir, and continued to show why he is considered as the most village cricketer in the side. Clearly unable to set his own field set, at one point Newman even bowled with only three men in the thirty yard circle, which was rightfully given as a no ball, however, Newman began to argue with the umpire on why the no ball was given, whilst at the same time completely ignoring the fact that the ball had been thrown past him for overthrows.
With wicketless Housey concluding the 1st innings with a drop catch and an aggressive "hissy fit", the team came off the field looking to chase a seemingly low score of 164.
After having teas which were surprisingly edible, the Tryfonos's eagerly paced out the the wicket, looking to chase the opposition score with ease. However, things got off to a terrible start as M.Tryfonos was undone on nought by arguably the greatest ball in cricketing history. After being triggered by umpire Mason, A.Tryfonos (who was halfway down the track when given) soon followed after scoring a comfortable 15.
This then brought the Shean brothers to the crease, who both ticked the score over at a steady pace until J. Shean, who clearly looked in form, sought about dispatching the wavering bowling attack of St. Mary Redcliffe, before (in anti-climactic fashion) was bowled round his legs by Madav.
Then L. Shean, once executing a few glorious shots through point, bottom edged a very slow bouncer onto his leg stump. Rothero, who had been given a second chance by the extremely generous umpire after leaving a straight ball into his pad, was quickly dismissed soon after, leaving Bedminster at around 70-5.
Kadir and Patel then began to built a solid, counterattacking partnership, smashing any loose balls towards the boundary. The game looked in control before Kadir fell for an explosive 12, bringing "superstar Mason" to the crease. Patel continued to bind the middle order, playing with positive intent until he was dismissed for a brilliant 42. Mason and House also chipped in with a valuable 22 runs between them before they were both dismissed . With the game now in the balance due to the loss of multiple crucial wickets, a heroic performance was required...
As Newman marched out the wicket, expectations were low, he was met by Filer in the middle and was ready to some how bring the game home. In a joint effort Newman and Filer began to nurdle the ball around the ground scrambling any singles possible. Newman also repetitively kicked the ball down to fine leg in order to scamper twos in leg byes. Although it wasn't particularly pleasing on the eye, Newman managed to scratch his way to 14 nonetheless. With 1 run required off of 1 ball, Newman and Filer heroically scuttled across for a single, giving Bedminster the win. Filer finished on a solid, match winning 4*,
And bedminster had become one step closer to winning the highly sought after league title....
