Greek Bottles 100 & Masons Friday Night Training Regime Pays off Again

In a relegation grudge match from the 2016 season, Bedminster smash Cleave to go top of the table.
Openers Tryfonos & Barnes set of steadily putting on 68 for no loss, although Barnes offered several opportunities on his way to 29 before missing the boat again as well as missing the full toss from opening bowler Hance.

This brought C McCormack to the crease who after playing WEPL 1 cricket earlier this season had a few " do you know who I am " moments with the Cleave fielders who had decided to sledge McCormack due to his play and miss early on (in fairness he was trying to hit the spinner into Hot Wells).

Once McCormack had finished telling the fielding side which division they were playing in, McCormack and Tryfonos set about building a 100 partnership. With some tidy batting the pair took things to 181 for 1 before Tryfonos (on 95) ran past a wide ball trying to reach his century like the Greek Brian Charles Lara, but instead almost fell over trying to reach the ball with one hand as his back finally decided to call time (old fart).

At 181-2 from 33 overs, in a rain affected match Stephenson had 11 overs to bat with McCormack, who unfortunately holed out soon after Tryfonos making it 197-3 and leaving Number 5 batsman Patel to make his mark. 2s debutant Stephenson laced a quick fire 30 smashing Spinner Coles into the railway 4 times for 6 while veteran Patel chipped one to Mid on for just 1 and then abused James Carters new picket fence on his way back to the changing room screaming on about wasting his Saturdays for this s-it sport........
Young Joe Shean followed soon after for a duck then House for 1, before Mason bazzled his 1st ball for 1 and Stephenson stumped for 30 to close the innnigs on 223-7 after 38 overs.

This brought on J ( fifer ) House and J ( wickets) Duckworth to bowl who again bowled super tight without luck for 8 overs including some stunning efforts from Tryfonos at slip who again had several balls drop short of him and keeper Jaques behind the stumps. House However took his 1st wicket of the season cashing in on a very basic over-exaggerated catch from Alfie Jaques who quite frankly was show boating to the fans so 1s Captain Carter might get the news at Downend about what a self proclaimed great keeper he is which left poor old Duckworth still scratching around for his 1st wicket in May.
Cleave at 38 for 1 from 8 overs brought the destructive Want to the crease, Want proceeded to smash both House and Duckworth everywhere taking Cleave to 68 for 1 of 13 albeit with a little luck as McCormac palmed a very straight forward catch at long off for 6 claiming that at WEPL 1 level he would have taken the catch, which left Captain Tryfonos with a very difficult disition to make. Tryfonos turned to specialist bowler H Newman for some inspiration but was told that Newman had pulled a muscle in his buttock and was unable to bowl (at Want in particular) but bravely suggested he would try to bowl if we could get the lad out, or if we could get Cleave 8 or 9 wickets down first, this act of heroism gave Barnes the opportunity he'd been waiting for, Barnes stuck his hand up to bowl at 101-1 after 17 and ran at Tryfonos to take the ball pointing out that he would win this game for the injured Newman, and win it he did claiming 4-30 from 5 overs and taking the massive wicket of Want who made 46 in just 20 balls. Barnes was ably supported by Louis Mason who again ran in like a man possessed to claim 5-33 with a bottled hatrick opportunity that he launched down the leg side for a wide included in his breathtaking spell. Mason taking his 13th wicket in 3 games dedicated his success to partying hard on Friday nights and gave a particular shout out to a young lady who refused to comment.
Cleave all out for 142 in the 26 over were soundly beaten but were keen to state that revenge would be sweet in the return fixture.
Bedminster top of the league after 3 games.
