An all round performce of 44-4 and 33 (24 balls) by Jack Gibbs could not help Bedminster defeat champions Bath.

In the away fixture Bath posted 326-5 declared in order to get the extra bonus points, however this did not deter Bedminster Skipper James Carter who asked the visitors to bat after winning the toss.

Bath started strongly and it was a diving catch by George Russell off Jack Gibbs to dismiss George Hankins for 25. Three over later he was joined back in the pavilion by his fellow opener Greg Hay (12) after being bowled by Richard Sillars, Bath were now 50 for 2 off 9 overs.

Paul Muchall joined Tim Rouse and the pair added a brisk 41 partnership before Muchall (23) was bowled by George Russell. Despite getting the wicket Russell was replaced by Sai Kamuni who bowled Luke Padgett (2) in his second over. Carter (9-2-37-2) had Rouse (28) edging to keeper Garreth Elphick and his next over trapped Thomas Hankins LBW, for 1, the visitors now struggling at 101-6 in the 23rd over.

Ben Ackland (17) steadied the ship with Seb Benton using up 13 overs for an additional 39 runs before he was bowled by Kamuni. Bath Captain James Campbell and Benton continued to plug away as the spin of Tom Smith replaced Carter, and the Bedminster bowling remained economical. However once they reached 40 overs (160-7) and with Kamuni bowled out (10-3-32-2) Bath showed why they topped the table adding 62 runs in 5 overs.

Gibbs returned and with his second delivery bowled Campbell for 47 breaking the 86 run partnership. He then went on in his next over to bowl both Benton (70) and Adam Kelly for a golden duck leaving Lloyd Davies 3 not out as Bath finished 244 all out, with Gibbs figures off 44-4 off 8.2 overs.

Elphick's poor run off form continued as he edged Muchall to keeper Padgett for a duck. Max Tryfonos (13) returning to the side looked good, until he fell the same way, as Muchall stepped up a gear roughing him up with a couple of short deliveries, the second of which left Tryfonos on the deck, once he picked himself up he made the walk back to the safety of the pavilion.

Joe Millard joined Rob Cunliffe and both dealt with the pace and shorter balls of Muchall well until Cunliffe (30) was surprised to be adjudged LBW. Kamuni (6) went the same way as Cunliffe but this time it was Thomas Hankins who got his man.

Despite having finished his initial bowling spell Muchall was again involved taking catches to dismiss Millard (24) and Sillars (22) off Davies and Rouse respectively Bedminster looking in a similar position to Bath, being 99 for 6, but this was off 29 overs. Muchall (10-3-31-4) returned to bowl Tom Pugsley for 1.

George Hankins was introduced and with his second ball claimed the wicket of his Gloucestershire colleague Smith (10) caught by Padgett. George Russell and Jack Gibbs took a liking to the Hankins nephew/uncle pairing as they smashed 67 including three sixes and two fours but Bath could afford to give away the runs and try and buy a wicket. This they did as as both were bowled, Russell by George for 37 (22 balls) and Gibbs two balls later for 33 (24 balls) by Thomas Hankins as Bedminster were all out for 187.

This result and others on Saturday mean Bath had won WEPL Prem 1 with Bedminster slipping to fifth. With two games to go and only 22 points separating third placed Bristol and second from bottom Potterne, who are in the final relegation place, no one outside the top two is safe. For their penultimate game Bedminster travel to their closest rivals Bristol who they defeated at home by four wickets and only six points separate the sides. In their final game Bedminster have home advantage as they host Frocester.
