Bedminster 2s started the season with a fine all round performance allowing the young guns to shine in a convincing win against Midsummer Norton 2s.
Losing the toss and being put into bat A.Tryfonos & M.Barnes saw off both the openers & the new ball whilst putting on 44, before Tryfonos was bowled by a "John Knapp" shooter, and Barnes was brutally triggered by H.Newman shortly after for 29, whilst R.John was cleaned up by Gloucestershire Girls Bowen-Jones (15) and V. Patel was out for a duck chipping one to cover of Bartlett.
At 88-4 R.Cunliffe came to the crease and batted sensibly with Max Tryfonos putting on 54 for the 5th wicket and in turn providing some stability before Tryfonos was out cutting a wide ball to point for 35. T.Rothero smashed a quick fire 21 before his standard loss off concentration in the 20s and L.Mason wasn't far behind scoring only 1, both H.Newman & J. Brain hit majestic boundaries whilst Cunliffe bazzled his way to 59 before being bowled by Norton opening bowler Phillips but in turn securing a competitive score of 217-8 in 45 overs.
In return Norton opening batsman saw off particularly good spells by J. Brain & u15s debutant B.Peacock who had an unbelievably difficult catch dropped at 1st slip, which brought H.Newman & L.Mason on to Bowl in the 13th over which is where the real damage began.
Gloucestershires Mason after being rumoured to having a heavy night and with a point to prove, destroyed the Norton middle order cleaning up Cox,Skipp,Rodd & Groombridge in a devastating spell ending with figures of 8 overs 4-31, he was ably supported by Newman 5.5 overs 2-21 M. Tryfonos 7 overs 2-18 and A. Tryfonos 5 overs 1-14 taking Bedminster 2s to a well deserved and long awaited victory in what will prove to be a tough season in a division full of established 1st teams.
